EPRI Partners with Microsoft to Explore AI’s Role in Power Sector Transformation
EPRI was proud to support the Power & Utility AI Executive Briefing, an event hosted by Microsoft that brought together more than 20 utilities from across the EMEA region. The two-day session focused on the transformative potential of artificial intelligence (AI) in the power sector, highlighting how advanced technologies can accelerate grid modernisation, improve operational efficiency, and enable a more sustainable energy future.
The energy sector is undergoing rapid change, driven by the twin imperatives of decarbonisation and digitisation. AI is emerging as a critical enabler in this transition, offering utilities new tools for predictive maintenance, grid optimisation, and operational resilience.
At the briefing, EPRI experts joined industry leaders to explore how Generative AI and other advanced AI applications can be deployed at scale across grid operations and power generation. These discussions underscored the importance of collaboration between utilities, technology providers, and research organisations to ensure that AI solutions are secure, scalable, and aligned with industry needs.
EPRI is actively working with hyperscalers such as Microsoft to help utilities and technology partners evaluate and implement Generative AI applications. This collaboration focuses on practical use cases that deliver measurable value, from asset health monitoring to real-time decision support for grid operators.
During the event, EPRI showcased several collaborative projects, including DCflex, aLLarMa, and PTX2.0, which demonstrate how AI can enhance flexibility, improve forecasting, and support the integration of distributed energy resources (DER). These initiatives reflect EPRI’s commitment to advancing AI-driven innovation in partnership with global technology leaders.
