European Workshop Week in Barcelona Brings Together Global Energy Leaders
Barcelona recently hosted EPRI’s European Workshop Week, bringing together more than 250 participants from over 100 companies and 21 countries. The event served as a collaborative platform for sharing the latest research, exchanging insights, and shaping strategies to address the most pressing challenges of the energy transition.
Across three days, participants explored critical topics including grid flexibility, industrial electrification, decarbonization pathways, and renewable integration. Sessions highlighted EPRI initiatives such as DCFlex and Project Mercury, alongside discussions on hydrogen, PV system reliability, and hydropower modernization.
Collaboration was a recurring theme, with contributions from leading organizations including Iberdrola, ENEL, RWE, Naturgy, Lightsource, and AGL, as well as technology partners like Google and Schneider Electric. These conversations underscored the importance of aligning research, technology, and industry expertise to accelerate progress toward a resilient, low-carbon energy system.
The event concluded with AI@EPRI, showcasing EPRI’s pioneering work in artificial intelligence applications for the energy sector, including the launch of the Open AI Consortium—a collaborative effort to advance AI-driven solutions for grid reliability and decarbonization.
