INNO-TREC
(INNOvative Transactive Renewable Energy Communities)
INNO-TREC is a European initiative aiming to transform energy value transactions within Renewable Energy Communities (RECs). The project introduces an energy credits platform integrated with web-based tools to support community adoption and optimise PV systems throughout their lifecycle.
The platform will enable internal energy credits transactions, donations to energy-poor households, and community-focused energy management. Six pilot RECs will demonstrate these innovations in Portugal, Greece, Belgium, Ireland, UK, and Italy.
Project objectives:
- Enable internal energy value transactions within RECs via energy credits.
- Provide digital tools for both setup and operations of community-integrated PV systems (member engagement, optimal PV sizing, performance monitoring, maintenance).
- Support social equity through donation of energy credits to energy-poor households.
- Facilitate decentralised and secure management of community-aggregated energy systems.
EPRI Europe participation
EPRI Europe will lead Task 4.3 – Simulation of Energy Flows and Virtual Energy Allocation, which consists on the development of a web-based tool to simulate energy flows at consumption and production meters, calculating balances between production, consumption, storage, surplus, grid purchases, and usage indicators. In addition, EPRI Europe will participate in the Irish Demo, focused on energy efficiency in agricultural PV-based communities. The Irish Demo will explore opportunities for community-led solar PV under the Irish Renewable Support Scheme and assess the role of distributed loads in supporting resilient grid operation through demand response actions. Finally, EPRI Europe leads communication and dissemination of this project.
